Fortec Star 4200
Reviewed by rufrokx on 7-7-2008 (Sussex, England) |
| Started off buying a motorised 90cm satellite kit from a high street retailer. It came with a Fortec Star Omega receiver. The Omega appeared to have a fault so I went back to the retailer and although they are going to replace the Omega, I wanted a replacement straight away so they did me a good deal on the 4200. Once connected to the dish (LNB and motor), it took very little time to set up, and I soon had it locked on to the Eurobird1/Astra 2 constellation using DiSEcQ and USALS. The first noticable difference between the 4200 and the faulty Omega was that the 4200 found all the UK Freesat channels (the Omega failed to find a single UK Freesat channel and would lock up and restart for no reason). The 4200 has an easy to use GUI which is more user friendly than the Omega, and even with the dish being buffeted by very strong winds the 4200 had no problems with the signal. I use the 4200 in conjunction with a Freeview PVR, so now have pretty much all the FTA/FTV channels I want. When I get the replacement Omega, I may use both receivers as the Omega has a loop through and two embedded card slots - we'll see. Anyway, I found the 4200 easy to use, easy to set up and easy to configure. Hence the 4 rating. |
