CW-800S PVR: Best value!!

| Box design: Small, stylish, light. The black one that I received fits right into my home set-up. Remote control still feels cheap, and there's the infamous Remote Sensor flaw. 4/5 Easy of set-up: VERY easy. As a new FTA user, once I had the dish set up correctly, it only took me 5-10 mins to do some reading and figure out how to set up the sats properly. Scanned 110/119 in another 5 mins or so. Autoroll on, patch enabled and I'm ready to go. 5/5 GUI: Very nice. Simple. Effect. Just how I like it. The EPG is especially easy to read. It can be annoying sometimes when you can go back to see what was on a few minutes before (not sure if you can on other receivers), but it's no big deal. 5/5 Features: Not a lot of those to be honest. PIP doesn't really work. I had trouble getting Close Captions to show up. But all the basic stuff is there. Recall history, chans subcategories, search for shows etc. USB firmware loading is the best :) 4/5 PVR: Ok, here's where I encountered my only problem. When it works, the PVR is great. Easy to use. Press Pause to timeshift. Press Green button to schedule recording. etc. Picture quality very good, just like watching Live TV. However, sometimes it just doesn't work. It'll show that the recording has started but filesize of video won't increase. I suspect it has something to do with the USB port not working properly. Sometimes all you have to do is unplug the usb device or reformat. But it can be annoying. And the rewind/FF don't work that well either. 3/5 Overall: 5 stars. For around $120, you will get one of the receivers with the best support right now. Team CaptiveWorks continue to amaze me with how quickly and efficient they work. Firmwares are released very fast, usually on par or even before the big dogs (SV/VS etc). PVR is not perfect, but it's more of an extra bonus than a must-have feature. If you want a cheap FTA receiver with a great team backing it, you can't go wrong with CW-800. (Go for CW-700 if you don't need PVR and want to save an extra $20 or so.) |

Love this unit!

| This unit is sweet. Got it few weeks back. I chose it over the VSPro and even though many people always go for the Viewsat, this was cheaper and has amazing support! 5 stars. |
